When it Rains it Really Pours!

Severe weather warnings for the sunshine Islands...

featured in News & reviews Author Pam Williamson, Mallorca Editor Updated

The Balearic Islands of Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera are still on an orange weather alert for heavy rains and thunderstorms.

Heavy rain was forecast over the weekend and the thunderstorm risk is running through until Tuesday 23rd September. As much as 40 litres per square meter is could fall within an hour on the Islands. A depression coming from the south west with unstable air keeps the alert on orange today and could affect as many as 28 communities.

This comes after a summer filled with heat waves and recent reports that so far September has been the hottest one on record for several years. There was a marked increase in tourism this September and some of that was attributed to the consistently high temperatures. This weeks storm risks may cool the weather slightly but I doubt that it will dampen holiday makers spirits are there are still plenty of fiestas and festivals taking place across the Islands that will certainly entertain and charm tourists regardless of weather conditions!
