The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) have announced that a new International level grass court event will be held in Mallorca in 2016.

The grass court season has been extended from two weeks to three, allowing more tournaments to be added to the calendar, in more locations.

There will be a multi-purpose built facility built on the Island, which will include 5 permanent natural grass tennis courts, a tennis academy and a retail area, all done with the backing of the Lawn Tennis Association.

The tournament is set to take place for the week of June 13th 2016, and will be played in the second week of a three-week grass-court window between the claycourt French Open and Wimbledon and will no doubt bring a boost to Mallorca's economy from an increase in the numbers of visitors ti the Island.
