Mushroom picking season is in the Autumn, normally towards the end of October and into November (it depends on when it begins to rain).
Mallorca's hot summers which are followed by autumnal rains provide great conditions for mushroms to sprout. Ceps and Chanterelles are commonly found. The Saffron milk cap (Lactarius deliciosus) is found locally and is used in many Mallorcan dishes. One of the most prozed mushrooms found in the hills is the Esclata-sangs, a large flat mushroom which is so popular that it has its own festival (held in Mancor del Vall in November).
