Sebastian & Juan Perello: Founders of Wheelssport

A local business with a passion for an international sport

featured in Meet the locals Author Pam Williamson, Mallorca Editor Updated

With Mallorca fast becoming THE place to go to for winter triathlon and cycle training, it will come as no surprise that the locals of Mallorca have always had a passion for cycling.

The team at Wheelsport have been in the business for nearly 20 years and can certainly offer you a genuine enthusiasm and local knowledge that will get you itching to get your feet on the pedals and head for the hills!

Tell us a little bit about your business, how it started out and where you're based...

Wheelssport was founded as a family business in 1986 in Puerto Alcudia, as a motorbike & bicycle rental shop. With the second generation managing the shop there was an increase in interest in bicycles and we started selling clothes, bikes and complements for biking. Situated in the north of the island, there are now three stores; in Puerto Alcudia, Playas de Muro and Can Picafort.

What makes Mallorca such a special place?

Travelling in Mallorca is about beautiful sights, fresh air and time to discover yourself along the way.

What are the best bits about your job?

Seeing the satisfaction on the faces of our clients when they have received a good and personal service. We try to sell passion!!

What is in store for the future with your business, any exciting projects in the pipelines that you can share with us?

2015 will be the beginning of a long partnership between Wheelssport and Eddy Merckx Cycles. We both have the same passion for cycling and are very focused on a more personal service rather than just thinking about the big numbers.

Where would send someone who was after that something 'something special' in resort, to stay, eat or drink?

Definitely, the place is Puerto Pollensa! A majestic place to relax either for an ice cream, drink or a nice dinner.

Your favourite place for lunch or dinner, if you're just looking for a quick bite to eat?

We love Restaurant S'Illot, on the way to Ermita de la Victoria, with the stunning views of the Puerto Pollensa bay.

Where will we find the best coffee, paella or empanades?

Our mam is the best cooker in the world. So feel free to ask us to enjoy a meal together with our family!

What has been your best ever day in Mallorca?

Any single day cycling in Mallorca with nice weather and stop for a coffee is always the best ever day. Easy :-)

What do you do when you're not working?

Enjoy Mallorca cycling with friends !!

Which is your favourite shop in Mallorca?

It`s an orange one calls "Wheelssport", they say the are local and that all money spent there will be reinvested in the Balearic economy.....cool ;-)

If someone was coming here for the first time, what would you suggest they absolutely must do or see in resort?

Go cycling to Cap Formentor, for sure.

Where is your favourite beach?

We love Cala Sant Vicente, in between Puerto Pollensa & Pollensa

What's your tip to escape the crowds in the summer?

Go up Puig Tomir and spent one night at the top. You'll never forge it!
