Although the campaign has not yet finished, almond growers predict that they will harvest around 7,200 tons, surpassing the 6,700 tons of last year. Not only that, but prices will also probably rise as well.

Mallorcan almonds are famous for their quality and sweet taste due to a higher fat content. They are also one of the main crops in the island with around 5 million trees.

According to Joan Simonet, president of the Young Agriculturists Association of the Balearics, the recent growth of the Mallorcan almond market is due to irrigation problems in California, main exporters of the nut, and a rising demand in Asia.

Most of the almonds from Mallorca are exported, but you can still try them out when visiting the island!
