An Early Start to the Season for Firefighters

One of the first forest fires of the summer season was brought under control yesterday

The fire broke out at around 14:30 yesterday afternoon, the cause is currently unknown, but forest fires can be very common throughout the dry summer months in Mallorca.

It took Palma firefighters several hours to control the blaze which occurred near the old barracks on the Genova road. This area has been prone to fires over recent years and access to the area is difficult due to the nature of the land which is very steep. A fire engine and helicopter were both utilised during the operation to bring the fire under control.

The recent warm weather has been a welcome change, especially over the holiday period, however, it brings with it more than just smiling faces and breakfasts on the balcony...we do hope that this is not the start of a dangerous season for the firefighters in Mallorca.
