Swedish film 'A Man Called Ove', nominated for Best Foreign Language Film in the 2017 89th Academy Awards, is set in several locations around the beautiful island of Mallorca including 3-star Araxa Hotel in Palma and areas of Formentor and Sa Calobra. The movie has also been nominated for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Hannes Holm directs this film based on a best-selling novel by Fredrik Backman. 'A Man Called Ove' tells the story of a bitter old man, played by Rolf Lassgard, who has lost his wife and is pulled out of his sadness by his new neighbours. Mallorca was chosen for several flashback scenes set in the 1980's, when a young Ove (Filip Berg) visits the island with wife Sonja (Ida Engvoll).

Araxa Hotel in Son Armadams, a quiet residential area of Palma, was chosen as one of the main locations for these flashbacks. The 1950's hotel was designed by Catalan architect Francesc Mitjans, who also created Mallorca Tennis Club and the famous Camp Nou Stadium in Barcelona, home of Barça football club. Other scenes were set in Formentor and Sa Calobra, including a complicated bus accident.

The film has already won Best Comedy at the European Film Awards. It will compete in the Best Foreign Film category against 'The Salesman' (Asghar Farhadi) from Iran, 'Toni Erdmann' (Maren Ade) from Germany, 'Land of Mine' (Martin Zandvliet) from Denmark and 'Tanna' (Bentley Dean) from Australia. For Best Makeup and Hairstyling, the other nominees are 'Star Trek Beyond', and 'Suicide Squad'.

We're very happy that there will be a piece of Mallorca present at this year's Oscars! We wish 'A Man Called Ove' all the best.
