Gastronomic markets are popping up all around Spain. Their popularity is probably due to the fact that they offer great quality food at affordable prices and the possibility of trying lots of different cuisines under one roof in an informal setting. After the opening of San Juan Gastronomic Market in 2015, Palma is getting another gourmet hotspot at the Paseo Marítimo, right by the sea, called Mercat 1930.

This new gastro hub will amplify Palma's already impressive culinary offering. Mallorca's largest city is one of the foodie capitals in the Mediterranean. Not only does it have a great range of restaurants on offer serving everything from traditional local cuisine to Asian fusion or Michelin-starred food, but the island also yields high-quality produce.

Located at the former Mediterraneo 1930 restaurant and boasting breathtaking views of the marina and Palma Bay, the space will be extensively renovated using traditional Mallorcan materials, mainly wood, iron and local tiles. Interior designer Jorge Bibiloni is in charge of this project which will result in a 650m2 indoor area and a 200m2 terrace overlooking the sea.

Michelin-starred chefs Andreu Genestra and Tomeu Caldentey have been part of the advisory committee that has chosen the 14 stalls that will make up the market. These will serve a great span of dishes from paella, Andalusian fried fish and local cold meats and cheese, through to grilled meat, deluxe burgers, seafood, croquetas, pintxos, tapas and an Italian rotisserie specialised in Porchetta di Araccia (pork roast), as well as options for vegetarians and vegans. There will also be two bars, one supplying thirsty visitors with international beers and the other serving cocktails and vermouths.

The market will open in Easter 2018.
