With Christmas markets and fairs beginning this week, the run up to the festive season has truly begun. Tis the season to be jolly!

It still feels a little early for Christmas to be in our minds but with the traditional Nativity Scenes, lights in the streets and of course the lights of the town hall in Palma itself, the start of the Christmas celebrations in Mallorca will begin in earnest this weekend.

Despite the mild weather, the Christmas lights and cooler evenings always give off the right atmosphere and put you in the mood for some mulled wine and sugary treats. Mallorca celebrates Christmas in a traditional way but is certainly less focused on the commercial side of the holiday that we find back in the UK. Most of the activities will take place in the City of Palma, where you can visit the Christmas Markets and even go ice skating, and the Islands catholic roots can be seen in the celebrations on 8th December at 'The feast of the Immaculate Conception' or Los Seises. Many of the smaller towns will also host their own celebrations and markets in the lead up to Christmas selling local produce, arts and crafts and traditional Christmas decorations.

Palma: Choral singing will be played in the Placa Cort in Palma de Mallorca from 18:45 on Friday evening ready for the lights to be switched on at 19:00. The markets will take place in Placa Major and Placa d'Espanya from 28th November until the 6th January, daily from 10:00 until 22:00.

Binissalem Christmas Market: 13th and 14th December at Plaza de la Iglesia de Binissalem, from 10:00 until 22:00.

Puerto Portals Christmas Market: From the 12th December until the 6th January. Opening times are not available yet.

Port Adriano: On 29th november from 15:30 until 19:30 there will be a charity christmas childrens party in aid of the cancer charity ASPANOB.

Restaurants across the Island will generally be open for a special Christmas lunch or dinner but be sure to make a booking in advance to ensure you are not disappointed! And check what their menu is for the day if you are craving a traditional turkey as not all of your favourite eating spots will be doing this!
