Christmas is here! Street lights have been switched on and the festive spirit fills the whole of Mallorca. Get the celebrations started with a visit to one of the many Christmas markets and fairs happening in the island this weekend.

The upcoming weekend (December 12th-13th) is undoubtedly the time to stock up on Christmas delights in Mallorca this year, since most of the festive markets take place then.

If you are staying in Palma, there is a wide range of markets to choose from. The largest is the Three Kings Christmas Fair along the Ramblas and Plaça Major, with food and crafts stalls as well as an ice rink! For a more northern European affair, you can head to the Scandinavian Christmas Market organised by the Swedish Church in Palma, home to the Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish communities in Mallorca. On December 13th from 17:00 to 21:00 take part in Juletide activities and try a cup of glögg (warm sweet strong wine with raisins) with spiced cookies or stollen while you browse traditional Christmas decorations (in Plaça del Cort).

Following the international theme, the German community in Santa Ponça organises a traditional Christmas market by the windmill (Polígono Son Bugadelles) until December 22nd. It features a flea market, crafts stalls, live music and a raffle.

A bit further north, in Puerto Portals they celebrate one of the most popular Christmas markets in the island from December 12th to January 6th with live music, activities for children, carols and even appearances by Santa Claus and the Three Wise Men.

The beautiful Lluc Sanctuary is also the setting of one of the most authentic Christmas fairs in Mallorca. Stalls will surround the religious building offering typical Christmas treats such as turrón, as well as local produce, decorations and crafts, while guided visits to the monastery will take place.

This is just a selection of the many Christmas markets happening in Mallorca this season, along with lots of festive activities that will make your holidays on the island a time to remember.
