Cycle safety in Mallorca

Mallorca council has plans to improve cycle paths across the island

featured in News & reviews Author Pam Williamson, Mallorca Editor Updated

After a bumper winter season in Mallorca, cycling tourism has been clearly identified as an important factor in lengthening the tourist season from summer destination to an all-year-round island.

In recent year the cycle tourism industry has blossomed, not only with professionals coming to train, events taking place and triathlon popularity, but we have also found that more and more tourists are coming to the island during the winter months to enjoy cycling as part of their holiday in the mild climate of the Mediterranean.

It seems only natural then that the Mallorca council should propose a plan to improve the cycle path networks across the island. A total of forty improvements are planned to take place over the coming years, with various areas being completed each year until 2019.

Many of these improvements will occur on the main road network but changes will also take place on municipal roads. This year, will see changes and repairs to the bicycle routes on the Ma-10 (Vallde-mossa-Esporles) and the Ma-1041 (Puigpunyent-Establecimientos).

This is great news for tourists and residents alike as Mallorca's cycling community continues to grow.
