Strava, the sports social network, have unveiled their 2016 Insights report and Mallorca has come out on top for the most popular segments in Spain. Not only that, but the Balearics are the third most active province in the country after Barcelona and Madrid.

576,378 cycling activities were recorded on the Mediterranean archipelago this year, with the longest average distance in Spain, 65.9 kilometres, and the third fastest average speed in the country with 23.4 kilometres per hour.

The first 6 from the top 10 most popular cycling segments in Spain in 2016 are located in Mallorca. The first one being the road from Port de Pollença to Alcudia, followed by the Port de Pollença sprint, the climb to Formentor, Coll de Sa Batalla near Escorca, Coll de Sa Creueta near Pollença and the ascent to Lluc's aqueduct.

This data strengthens the popularity of northern part of the island among cyclists, especially around Pollença and Lluc. The area combines challenging climbs with breathtaking sea views, so no wonder it has become a hotspot among riders visiting Mallorca!
