The first forest fire of 2016 was reported on Sunday afternoon in the Cala Tuent area in the north west of Mallorca. the blaze affected around 13 hectares of pine woods before it was brought under control on Monday morning

Firefighters were working through the night on Sunday to control the fire which was said to have been an intentional land fire that sadly got out of control in strong winds. As the temperatures rise coming into the summer months, the dry weather and winds leave vast areas of forest susceptible to fire risk. Even controlled land fires such as this are at risk of causing a significant amount of damage. Although common throughout the summer months in Mallorca and across Spain, this is the first one on the island and a reminder to all to remain vigilant.
