Last Saturday Alcúdia hosted one of Europe's most popular full-distance Ironman races. Two Germans were victorious: Timo Bracht did a total time of 8 hours and 17 minutes, while in the women's race Daniela Saemmler finished at 9 hours and 31 minutes.

The tough course takes athletes through the stunning landscape of Mallorca's coast, an island that has lately become a sought-after destination for cyclists and runners. The race entails a 3.8 km swim in Alcúdia's harbour, a 180 km bike track following a very challenging hilly route around the area, and a final 42 km run returning to the town's beach.

Around 2300 athletes from 57 different countries participated in the Ironman. Among them, 572 came from the UK, 364 from Germany and 273 travelled from various corners of Spain.

The registration for the 2016 edition is already open. It will take place on September 24th.
