The Giant pumpkins were the stars of the show at Muro's Autumn Fair (also known as Fira de sa Carabassa) this weekend.

The winner in the largest pumpkin contest was well know pumpkin grower Miquel Cloquell. Having previous wins under his belt and an extra special crop this year he was confident of yet another victory. His two winning pumpkins came in joint first, at an enormous 266 kg, one of them standing out because it was a rare white pumpkin.

Although these 'heavy weights' of the pumpkin world took first place, this was in the International category! The local winner, almost a quarter of the weight and size of Cloquell's weighed in at 67kg, and was grown by Joan Gamundí Capó.

As the prize money was awarded at one euro per kilo, Cloquell took home the tidy sum of €266 as well as the pride and prestige of winning the competition.

With this being the eighth edition of the Pumpkin Competition there are now big hopes for next years event! Not only is the event growing in popularity but clearly this is one event where size does matter!
