Let the winemaking commence
The wine harvest season has come to an end in Mallorca
The last of the grapes has been picked in the Binissalem wine region, and the 2016 vintage could not look any better! Both quantity and quality have increased, especially red wine grapes which make up a 75% of the total in Mallorca.
Cabernet Sauvignon and Gorgollassa were the final varieties to be picked at the beginning of October. This year's harvest has increased an average 3% compared to last year in the Binissalem region, amounting to over 2 million kilograms of grapes.
Most of this growth is thanks to local varieties like Mantonegro, Callet, Giró Ros and Gorgollassa which make more than half of Mallorca's harvest and give the island's wine its peculiar character. But it is not only a great year in terms of quantity but also of quality as the lack of precipitation this summer has meant a higher concentration of sugar in the fruits.
We're already looking forward to next years wine festivals so we can enjoy the new vintage!
