Mallorca protected cycling routes
The island has 3 extra-safe routes for cyclists
Spain's DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico, the national traffic regulation office) have unveiled the new routes included in the Protected Cycling Routes scheme and three of them are located in Mallorca.
All routes under this scheme have special regulations to protect cyclists. New signs, lower speed limits, more policemen in the summer, alcohol controls and helicopter surveillance will aim to ensure the cyclists' security on the routes.
In Mallorca, they go from Tolleric (south of Palma, near Sa Torre) to the south of Campos, from Llucmajor to Porreres and from Lluc to Valldemossa via Sóller for a total of 94 kilometres of protected cyclist routes. The island has become a hotspot for cyclists in the spring, especially the area around the Serra de Tramuntana, so these new protected routes will no doubt be a welcome addition for all the bike aficionados out there.
