Mallorca ready for the Three Kings

Spanish children receive their Christmas presents on January 6th

According to the Bible, the Three Wise Men brought gold, frankincense and myrrh to baby Jesus, but in Spain they also bring presents to well-behaved children. Preparations have already started in Mallorca to receive Their Magical Majesties, with their pages arriving in advance to collect the kids' letters.

Today will see the arrival of the royal pages in Palma; starting at 17:00, there will be two for each one of the Three Kings: Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar. A post box has been set up in most of Mallorca's town centres so that children can send their letters.

The big 'cavalcada' (parade) will happen on Thursday in Mallorca and Ibiza's largest villages, most of them starting at 18:00, where the Three Wise Men will hand out sweets. And, on Friday, Spanish children will wake up to presents left by the foreign kings near the shoes they have left outside or under the Christmas tree.

If you want to celebrate this day in full Mallorca style, don't forget to buy a 'Roscón de Reyes' to eat for breakfast on the 6th (bank holiday in Spain). This fluffy cake is not only a delicious start of the day, but it also contains a small present inside, so be careful when biting into the roscón!
