Calle 13 has arrived in Mallorca for the Roots Music Festival and will be playing this Tuesday 14th July alongside the legendary Jamaican Ska band, The Skatalites, and local Mallorcan band, Rumba Katxai.

With 24 Grammys under their belt and a fan base of millions, the Puerto Rican alternative rap band Calle 13, has already had sell out shows in Barcelona, Bilbao and Paris and is set to do the same here on the island.

I was lucky to be in Puerto Rico in December 2012 for Calle 13's first concert there in three years and their energy was contagious. They had been previously banned from playing in San Juan by a mayor uncomfortable with their provocative lyrics, which focus on social issues and highlight corruption. If you understand Spanish, you'll be blown away by singer song writer's, René Pérez, talent for weaving words and speaking truths.

Playing reggae, rocksteady, dub and ska, The Skatalites are guaranteed to bring a great vibe to the night. As for the local band, Rumba Katxai, their mix of rumba, reggae and cumbia had me dancing within seconds of hearing them for the first time.

The festival kicks off at 19.00 in Son Festeret, with Rumba Katxai kicking off, followed by The Skatalites at 20.30 and Calle 13 headlining at 22.30. There will also be a DJ and Visual Artists performing later in the evening.

Tickets costs just 25€ so hurry!
