One of the most photographed skylines in Mallorca is outlined by the windmills at Pla de Sant Jordi. These 19th-century constructions are now the main feature of a new cycling route that will showcase the beautiful buildings together with Mallorca's rural landscape.

Erected in the 19th century by a Dutch engineer, Pla de Sant Jordi's windmills were part of a plan to drain the local lagoon and stop the risk of a malaria outbreak. Wheat, hemp and vegetables were then planted, crops that still grow in the area even though the scheme was not completely successful. Mallorca's government is now rehabilitating some of the more than 1500 windmills present in the area.

So get on your bike at Playa de Palma and pedal all the way to Pla de Sant Jordi to enjoy this unique landscape. Yet another exciting cycling route to add to the already extensive range on offer on this beautiful island.
