After a long period of investigation into alleged tax evasion and money laundering by Princess Cristina's husband Inaki Urdangarin, King Felipe stripped the pair of their titles of Duke & Duchess of Mallorca on Friday.

In a move set to try to distance the royal family still further from the princess as she awaits trial for alleged tax fraud, Christina's title was taken from her, which automatically meant the loss of her husband's title too.

Calls have increased recently for her to be stripped of her title of princess too, to try to protect the monarchy before she goes to trial some time later this year.

If found guilty, Christina could face up to 4 years in prison and her husband around 19 years.
