Ana Ivanovic inaugurated the new grass courts at Playas de Santa Ponsa Tennis Club, together with Palma local Carlos Moyá and Toni Nadal, Rafa Nadal's trainer and uncle.

Spanish tennis players are known for their mastery of clay courts, it is no coincidence that Manacor-born superstar Rafa Nadal has been named the "King of Clay", but turf is getting more and more popular in the country. The opening of these new grass courts in Santa Ponsa confirms the trend, and it is even rumoured that Nadal will train for Wimbledon on them.

These installations will also host Spain's first grass tournament, the all-female WTA Mallorca Open in June, part of the "Road to Wimbledon" circuit. It will feature players like world number 4 Garbiñe Muguruza, Eugenie Bouchard or Sabine Lisicki, all of them Wimbledon finalists.
