High winds have already had an effect on the northern coastal areas with waves being whipped up and causing problems on the smaller beaches.

Wind gusts at speeds sometimes exceeding 80 km/h have been experienced over Wednesday and for Thursday, October 23, the state weather service AEMET has proclaimed the warning level yellow (risk), and on the neighbouring island of Menorca is has reached orange! This will most likely affect ferry services between the Islands so check with your ferry company before you travel.

On Wednesday, authorities registered dangerous squalls off the coast and to the east a wind speed of 83 km/h had been recorded. Today again you should expect two to three foot waves and water sports activities are not advised.

The clear skies in Palma with minimal wind and temperatures of 25 degrees are in great contrast to the violent squalls in the northern areas of Alcudia or Can Picafort. The weather should settle again on Friday with the warning level dropping on Mallorca and dropping to yellow on Menorca.

So stay safe and if you are in the north...then maybe stay out of the sea!
