What's On in Mallorca May 2018

It feels like summer has arrived but Mallorca’s got a lot more to offer than sunbathing on a beach with your favourite cocktail in hand. The month of May usually provides the perfect temperature to get out and explore the best of this magical island.

There's always a lot going on on this beautiful island so, to help you find some of the highlights, we've whittled down a list of our favourite events and things to see and do during May 2018.

May is when many of the rural villages all around Mallorca celebrate their spring festivals. Kicking things off, Estellencs hosts its Cheese & Wine Fair on Tuesday 1st May. Other markets will be popping up around the island over the course of the month and selling a whole range of things including handicrafts, local produce, farm animals and more. Of course, in true Spanish style, live music and entertainment are always a big attraction at these kinds of events.

Es Firo in Port de Sóller

Port de Sóller celebrates its most popular traditional festival, Es Firo, at the beginning of May. This is a weekend-long fiesta within the ancient fishing town with parades, live music and market stalls. The main event takes place on Monday 14th May, when locals perform a colourful reenactment of the battle between Christians and Moors that took place in 1561. Attracting people from all over the island, boats filled with "North African pirates" land at Port of Sóller in the early afternoon and march into town battling the men and women of Sóller, with a spectacular final fight taking place in the main square.

Capdepera Medieval Fair

On the 18th, 19th and 20th May, the historic town of Capdepera travels back in time hundreds of years to the Middle Ages for its Medieval Fair. Here, medieval-inspired arts & crafts, food, drink and live entertainment await you in and around the town's 14th-century castle. A great day out for the whole family to enjoy!

Palma Beer Festival

For a 4th consecutive year, Palma celebrates its annual beer festival in Parc de la Mar, in front of the iconic cathedral. Here you can sample more than 100 beers from around the world, including some native to Mallorca. It will be open daily between the 27th April and the 6th May, starting at 11:00 and running late into the evening.

Nikki Beach daytime fun

After their opening party on April 26th, the exclusive Nikki Beach is brightening up the month of May with a great calendar of events. Tuesdays are dedicated to the ladies, while the famous Sintillate party takes place on Thursdays and Fridays. There's Rosé Saturdays and, of course, their celebrated Amazing Sundays Champagne Brunches go down, unsurprisingly, on Sundays.

Deia International Music Festival

The Deia International Music Festival is one of the biggest and best music festivals on the island and it kicks off in May. On the 10th, 24th and 31st May there are various events taking place at the magnificent setting of Son Marroig. International pianists, violinists, cellists, and a string quartet are featuring alongside Zuill Bailey, winner of two Grammy Awards in 2017.

PalmaVela Regatta

The Palma International Boat Show might end on Tuesday 1st May, but yachting is still at the front of many minds as a big regatta fills the horizon of Palma Bay. Since its inauguration in 2004, PalmaVela Regatta has become a rather large international affair. Between the 2nd and 16th May, you can expect to see large yacht classes like Wally and Maxi, and smaller yachts like IRC, ORC, TP52, Swan, J80, FF, Dragon and more.

Mallorca Live Festival

The island will welcome some big names in the national and international music industry’s. Indie, rock, electronic and urban music legends will feature at the Mallorca Live Festival on the 11th and 12th May 2018. Headlined by The Prodigy and Primal Scream, this weekend-long event in Calvia will also see live acts by Solomun, Black Lips, Izal, Nina Kraviz, Vitalik Live and many more.

IronMan 70.3 Mallorca

Triathletes will fly in for the 12th May to take part in one of Mallorca’s biggest sporting events, the IronMan 70.3. The race covers some of Mallorca’s best bits, as competitors swim in the waters of Port d'Alcúdia beach, cycle within the Serra de Tramuntana Mountains and run along the Bay of Alcúdia.

Dirty Dancing at Palma Auditorium

A chance to relive one of the most iconic musicals of all time, as the cast of the show will be putting on a spectacular performance each evening at Palma Auditorium between the 23rd May and 3rd June. Don’t miss your chance to sing along to favourite tracks like “(I’ve had) The time of my life”.
