The Country Club Santa Ponça will host an ATP 250 Tour event next year. This grass-court championship will take place just one week before Wimbledon, on June 20th-27th 2020.

After 18 years, Mallorca is back in the men's professional circuit – the last ATP Tour tournament hosted on the island took place between 1998 and 2002. With this announcement, the birthplace of tennis superstar Rafa Nadal consolidates its place in the world of men's elite sports.

The Mallorca Championships will be celebrated in place of the Antalya Tournament, in Turkey, and will offer €900,000 in prize money. This will be the third ATP Tour event in Spain, after the Conde de Godó in Barcelona and the Madrid Open. 28 individual players and 16 doubles teams will take part in the challenge.

Toni Nadal, Rafa's uncle and former trainer, is the tournament director. In the presentation of this new event, he expressed how he was "very proud that there will be an ATP tournament in Mallorca after so many years again. We expect to offer the fans a strong line-up in the final week before Wimbledon. After four successful women’s tournaments, we are now starting a new, exciting tennis era in Mallorca with this men’s event.”

Just like Toni mentioned, a WTA event, the Mallorca Open, has been taking place on the grass courts of the Country Club Santa Ponça since 2016. However, with the arrival of the Mallorca Championships, it's believed that this women's tournament will be relocated to Berlin.
