On May 23rd, Spain's Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, confirmed that the country will start welcoming international travellers in July 2020. This news has been very well received in a country where tourism adds up to 12% of the national GDP.

The government has started contacting tourist companies and authorities in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Portugal. Their aim is to establish safe corridors between those countries and Spain so that people can travel to Mallorca freely, with a low risk of contracting the virus and avoiding any unilateral measures that could affect them, such as quarantines.

Spain welcomes more than 83 million tourists each year, most of them coming from the UK (18 million), Germany and France (11 million each). This summer, the country wants to ensure that holidays in Mallorca are safe, healthy and environmentally friendly.
