Mallorca’s south west coastline boasts some of the most prestigious ports on the island, including Port Portals, Port Adriano and Port d’Andratx.
They are all famous in their own right, Port Portals is probably the most established port on the island due to its well-known glamorous restaurants, bars and clientele. Whilst charming fishing resort Port d’Andratx offers spectacular sea views and is admired for being a little more inconspicuous, making it a popular destination for celebs trying to keep a lower profile on the island. In the last 5 years, Philip Stark’s impressive design of Port Adriano, has firmly placed this port on the map in Mallorca. More and more people are growing to know and love this port for its fabulous restaurants, shops, pop-up festivals and live entertainment.
If you get a little thirsty in the afternoon sunshine, there are plenty of watering holes to explore on the west of the Island. If you are looking for a beach club vibe, then you are lucky enough to have beach clubs on the doorstep of each port mentioned above. For the ultimate beach club experience, we recommend the world famous Nikki Beach. This beach club is a trendy spot, a short taxi-ride away (10-15€) from Port Portals and Port Adriano and attracts a multitude of jet-setters, celebs and boat owners due to its outstanding reputation, prime location and ability to anchor right in front of the establishment. The Gran Folies Beach Club is a hidden treasure in Cala Llamp, a short taxi-ride (10-15€) from Port d’Andratx and a great place to pass time with sensational panoramic views of the sea.
Make sure you dress to impress in the prestigious Port Portals in the evenings. Cappuccino Cafe, located right on the port-front is a great destination for your favourite tipple, whether that be a cocktail, gin and tonic, a beer or an ice cold glass of rose. For elevated views of the port you can enjoy people watching as you sip on scrumptious cocktails from the terraces in Key West Cocktail Bar or Cream Puerto Portals (an ice cream and cocktail bar). If you are after some live music? Make sure you stop by Spoon Restaurant & Cocktail Bar on a Friday evening.
In Port Adriano there are plenty of bars with fantastic views of the port and the sunset, and if money is no object then Coast By East is the place to be. If wine is what you want, then a visit to Sansibar Wine is a must for an international choice of wines. Otherwise La Terraza has some of the best views of the port and Crew Bar is a more casual place with an impressive list of gin and tonics! During the summer months you can kick back and enjoy the live entertainment going on throughout the port late into the evenings. This place is family friendly and you will find a real mixture of attire throughout the port, so you won’t feel out of place in jeans and converse or dressed in your finest.
If you find yourself in Port d’Andratx Tim’s Bar is a bit of an institution for locals and expats alike. Cappuccino Cafe in a prime location attracts a wide range of people and is humming with people in the summer evenings. With the likes of Claudia Schiffer and Brad Pitt being spotted in the area, who knows who else you might see? Port d’Andratx sports a more relaxed feel in terms of dress code, but don’t be shy if you want to wear an elegant dress.
In search of somewhere to let off some steam? Well the good news is, during the summer months (May-October) the ports come alive, the restaurant bars tend to close later and later and if you are wanting to get your dancing shoes on then you’ll always find somewhere to go. The bad news is that it is only for these 6 months of the year.
In Port Portals, it seems to be about rooftop bars. Key West and Ritzi Lounge Bar are popular and crowds tend to gather in these two bars because you will always find a lively atmosphere. It seems boat owners are attracted to these spots, perhaps it is because they can keep a close eye on their boat from the terraces overlooking the port?
In Port Adriano, in mid-June brand spanking new nightclub Upper East opened with a strong start as it stole the spotlight from ‘The Best of Yachting’ taking place during its opening weekend. We have high hopes for this place being the first nightclub to open in the port.
Get your dancing shoes on for Barracuda nightclub in Port d’Andratx, open every night in the summer months you will find the best DJ’s, themed nights and a variety of music genres. Something for everyone!
If you are after something a little more from your evening, then there is always something going on in Mallorca. I mean, the Spanish love a fiesta but there are plenty of jazz festivals and live shows going on too! Check out what’s coming up on See Mallorca Events.
