On a wet, rainy night we set off to sample some tapas in Pollensa and I had a place in mind, La Botigueta. Found at number 1 Carrer Temple, in the narrow, windy streets of the historic centre of Pollensa, behind the main church square.

A trip down to the south-west of Mallorca found The Frenchman and I in Sant Elm. A pretty little fishing village, Sant Elm is the closest port to the national park of Sa Dragonera.
Tucked away in the back-streets of the old town, Gaudeix is another of one of Palma’s gems - just a few minutes’ stroll off Passeig del Borne. Take the narrow Carrer de San Feliu on the opposite side of the Passeig to the Cathedral - (you’ll see a sign for Rialto Living as you turn), and you should find Gaudeix on your right-hand side after 200 metres or so.
Deia is one of Mallorca’s most renowned villages. Situated on the west coast where the Tramuntana mountains dive down into the sea, this picture perfect village is a million miles away from the purpose-built Majorca holiday resorts you find on the north, south & east coasts.
Ca’n Picafort generally isn’t at the top of any one’s cool list, judging by the main street you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s all Irish bars, full English breakfasts and 2 4 1 novelty cocktails, but then you stumble upon a gem like Mar y Paz and your faith in a whole town can be restored just like that!
Easter Sunday, I wanted to do it how the locals do it! My Mallorquina friend recommended we visit Los Patos restaurant, a cultural landmark located in an old rice drying warehouse in the area of Port d'Alcúdia. She insisted it had been a firm favourite for her family for a number of years and served up some of the best traditional Mallorcan food the island has to offer.
The Frenchman is one of those people who puts great store by awards and medals, so when we did a search of Mallorca's best restaurants, and saw that a restaurant called Koldo Royo had held a Michelin star for 18 years, it went straight to the top of our list. Run by a chef of the same name, Koldo Royo had gained rave reviews and was considered a flagship restaurant in Palma. I said that I was sure it had closed down a couple of years ago. Nonsense, said the Frenchman, showing me pages from the web with reviews and contact details for the restaurant.
We are always on the look-out for new & interesting restaurants in Majorca, and every now and then we take a peek at Trip Advisor to see what restaurants are being talked about. Now of course, Trip Advisor does not necessarily pick out the best quality restaurants but it is an indicator of popularity, and it can be helpful if you are looking for some dining inspiration.
Son Julia Country House & Spa isn’t only to be enjoyed by hotel guests, anyone can dine at their first-class Las Bovedas Restaurant. Having eaten here before, I have fallen madly in love with the outdoor terrace. The tables are always elegantly set, and there’s such a magical ambiance in the golden hour before sundown.
With the promise of a new, fresh dining experience, Miceli restaurant in the backwater village of Selva seemed an opportunity not to be missed. Having heard about the restaurant during my visit to Selva to make Panades during Easter weekend I thought it was worth a return trip to discover what all the fuss was about.

Our rather ill-timed destination was the wineries of Binissalem - it was enough to make us break out into a cold sweat. The wisdom of this choice was discussed on the journey, and was unanimously kicked into touch in favour of - you've guessed it - lunch.
Every city needs at least one great steak house. Last night I found Palma's. Just off Plaza Espana in the Placa Comte Rosello is the Rodeo Grill where they specialise in steak. Be it T-Bone, entrecôte, sirloin or chateaubriand this is the place to go for a steak in Palma de Mallorca.
Established in the 1960s, Ponderosa Beach Club has grown in stature in recent years to become one of the trendiest addresses in Mallorca. It can be found in the north of the island on the beautiful Playa de Muro beach, near Can Picafort.
So another weekend, another drive around the tiny, narrow roads of Mallorca, with the Frenchman cringing every time a car approaches as he imagines the car swerving off the road and tumbling down some ravine. For the umpteenth time, I promise myself never to take him on a day out again.
