Heat wave to hit Mallorca during busiest week of summer

Palma airport is expecting record numbers as Mallorca expects record temperatures

Mallorca has been put on "Yellow Alert" as a heat wave is expected to hit the island on Tuesday of next week. Forecasters predict that there will be a spike in temperatures throughout Mallorca with the thermometers reading up to 36 degrees inland and 34 degrees on the north coast around the beach resorts of Alcudia and Pollenca.The heatwave is expected to bring temperatures three degrees higher than normal just as Mallorca hits the peak time of the year for visitors.

This weekend is the busiest weekend of the season for Palma's Son Sant Joan Airport with 2537 landings/take-offs expected and 438, 036 scheduled seats coming through the airport on more than 918 planes.The airport in Palma has already seen record levels of traffic this year. In July 3.4 million visitors to Mallorca came through the airport making it the third busiest in Europe behind Barcelona and Heathrow.
