The station of the Ferrocarril de Sóller Palma will host an exhibition of Miro that has been curated by his grandson, Joan Miro Punyet.

The train line and stations which stretch between Palma and Soller are a well known tourist and visitor attraction, characterized, amongst other things, by the fact that it is narrow gauge. The track width being 914 mm (an English yard), which is infrequent nowadays and it has been meticulously finished, and maintained using traditional methods.

This attractive route through the Sierra de Alfàbia mountain range means that the railway rises up nearly 200 metres and runs through thirteen longitudinal tunnels ranging in length from 33 to 2,876 metres, crosses over several bridges, the “cinc-ponts” viaduct which has five arches with spans 8 metres high and a great many bends.

Sóller Railway Station is fairly large and was originally an old fortified building dating from 1606, Ca'n Mayol. The station is also home to a museum dedicated to the works of Picasso and Joan Miro.

This Thursday, October 16th, the Station at Palma will host an exhibition of Joan Miro's graphic works. Miro was convinced that the etching could bring contemporary art to a much larger audience and along with his desire to experiment this led him to the graphic arts. He was the author of important series, some inspired by Mallorca and the Balearic Islands. The exhibition will allow members of the public to view over thirty engravings, lithographs and plates.
