The Frenchman recently had a couple of his countrymen over to visit for the weekend. Parisian to boot, the pressure was on to find somewhere suitably ‘chic et sophistiqué, cherie' to impress our visitors on a Friday night in Mallorca.
The centre of Palma has a wealth of restaurants and tapas bars as you might expect from a major Spanish city.
Lured in by their regular postings of delicious local produce on their Twitter account - I recently managed to pop in to Es Rebost in Palma centre to see if they are as good on-plate as online!
Forn de Sant Joan has been one of our favourite restaurants in Mallorca since our first visit three years ago.
We are always on the look-out for decent lunch spots in Palma, where you know you'll get a decent quality lunch at reasonable prices in convivial surroundings - preferably outside on a terrace. So after an impromptu shopping trip on of Avinguda Jaume III, we found ourselves on C/Bonaire (which is just off this main shopping thoroughfare). There are a number of cafes and bars on this street, and it's a popular lunch spot with local workers as well as visitors.
Placa Espana is the major transport hub in the centre of Palma. It is where most of the buses & trains start their journeys, and where you catch the traditional wooden train to Soller. As such, there are a number of less refined dining establishments in the area, where you can fork out not insignificant sums for rather ordinary fare (no transport pun intended!). So it is good to know that there are some seriously good alternatives in the vicinity where you are guaranteed a good feed at a decent price.
Restaurante Tomeu is headed up by Tomeu Caldentey, who was the first Mallorcan chef to receive a Michelin star. His Mallorcan original, Es Moli d'en Bou received a Michelin star and has built up an enviable reputation since 2004. So, when news broke that he would be opening a new restaurant in Palma in the summer of 2017, it became the talk of the town and quickly featured on every foodie’s hit list.
Naan Street Food is set in Santa Catalina, Palma’s trendy food district and its concept takes diners on a gastronomic journey around the world. Within a casual yet chic setting, Naan Street Food serves up-to-date international food, in a street food fashion.
August 2017 saw the launch of Palma’s newest gastronomic meeting point, Mercat 1930. Conveniently located along Palma’s Paseo Maritimo, this space comprises of 13 stands serving up the latest gastro trends, offering something for everyone, whether they be a foodie, or not.

Tucked away in the back-streets of the old town, Gaudeix is another of one of Palma’s gems - just a few minutes’ stroll off Passeig del Borne. Take the narrow Carrer de San Feliu on the opposite side of the Passeig to the Cathedral - (you’ll see a sign for Rialto Living as you turn), and you should find Gaudeix on your right-hand side after 200 metres or so.

Despite its location on a cobbled backstreet buried in the depths of Palma’s old town, Quina Creu has deservedly built up a devoted fan base in the city and we thought we would go and see what all the fuss was about!
