Festa des Vermar (Wine Fair), Binissalem

Wine, grape fights and fire runs in Binissalem

featured in Events calendar Updated

La Festa des Vermar is the annual grape harvest festival that includes parades, celebrations, grape-crushing competitions and a wine tasting contest. Don't miss the grape battle!

The highlight of the festival is the grape battle on Saturday from noon. We recommend you wear old clothes (preferably white!) that you don't mind ruining or stand well back as this one gets messy.

The correfoc is also very popular. The fire runs are always entertaining but they can get quite loud and hot so wear something with long sleeves and a hat. There's also a wine fair, where you can taste local wines at Parc de Sa Rectoria.

The final day of the festival sees traditional entertainment in the main square. Enjoy the Binissalem giant puppets accompanied by 'xeremiers' earlier in the day as well as free wine in the church square.

The rest of the festival's events are in the official programme (click on the web link). They include live music, activities for children, wine tasting sessions, grape-stomping competitions and a popular picnic where the traditional "Fideus de Vermar" (a type of paella made with short noodles instead of rice, cooked with lamb, tomatoes, sobrassada and Binissalem red wine) are served. The programme is in Catalan and will be available about a week before the event.
