Pep Bonet – ‘Watching in Silence' by Fonart IB
Acclaimed Spanish photojournalist, Pep Bonet, was born on Mallorca in 1974. From 2nd June until 14th July a selection of his work is on show at the SA Nostra Centre de Cultura in Palma.
The exhibition, entitled ‘Watching in Silence', is made up of 50 photographs, each a pictorial narrative of people around the world in less than perfect circumstances. With his images he aims to highlight social issues and defend human rights whilst showing his subjects as strong and dignified individuals.
Bonet's ongoing projects focus largely on Africa and include social issues such as HIV/ Aids. ‘Faith in Chaos' is his best known work - a running photo commentary on the aftermath of the war in Sierra Leone. He was awarded the Eugene Smith Humanistic Grant in Photography in 2005 and won the World Press Photo Award in both 2007 and 2008.
