A seven year old British boy and his father have drowned in the waters of Cala Antena in the east coast of Mallorca. They have been named as George Selby (28) and his son, Louis.

The tragic accident occured on Saturday morning at around 11am. The English family were staying at the Balmoral Hotel in the popular holiday resort of Calas de Mallorca and had opted to take a walk down to the coast. Weather conditions were stormy with red flags flying on the beach, denoting unsafe conditions.

It is reported that the son walked on to a viewing platform so that his father could take some photos of him against the sea, and that a large wave caught the child, sweeping him over the edge. Mr Selby immediately dived in to save his son but neither reappeared fron the rough seas.

Nearby life guards were on the scene soon after, but were unable to save the pair.

The family had just arrived on Mallorca for a holiday. The child's mother and her two other children are being looked after by the British Consulate in Mallorca.
