Lifeguards out in full patrol on Mallorca beaches

featured in News & reviews Author Melissa Chandler, Mallorca & Palma Correspondent Updated

With the weather heating up fast and everyone heading to the beach, public safety is the number one priority for Mallorca’s regional government. They have confirmed that there are now eight rescue companies, along with 171 lifeguards looking after operations on Mallorca beaches.

In addition to life-saving duties, the lifeguards also keep a look out for jelly fish that stray close to shore. Purple flags are raised by the lifeguards when jelly fish are spotted. The government have published information leaflets specifically for visitors that describe the different types of jellyfish in the Balearic waters and what to do in the event of being stung. This information is also posted on beach notice boards in four languages - Spanish, Catalan, English and German.
