Palma's popular bike rental scheme Bicipalma is to double the number of bikes they currently have pedalling around the city in order to reduce waiting times. The cycle plan was introduced in 2011 to help people get around the city easily and reduce the number of car journeys.

The hours of service will also be extended. From Sunday to Thursday, and public holidays, the service is open from 7am to 10pm. After 10pm, you can only return the bicycle. On Fridays and Saturdays, the service operates from 7am to midnight. After midnight it is only possible to return the bikes.

There are more than 1500 people registered to use the Bicipalma bikes. An annual subscription is available for a promotional price of €15 at the moment. Normally an annual subscription costs €24, biannual is €15, quarterly is €9 and monthly is €4. Bikes are available free of charge for the first half an hour and can be picked up and dropped off at any of Bicipalma's 28 stations that span across 15 districts of the city. Take a look at the map for docking stations.

Unfortunately the new changes to the Bicipalma service still only allow those with a citizen card to use them and so is not a service designed for tourists to use, however it is rumoured that this will change in 2013.

Anyone can obtain a citizen card even if they are not resident in Palma. The Citizen card was introduced to allow people to pay for tickets and use public transport without carrying cash. The card costs €1.15 for non residents and you need to take a passport, DNI or NIE as identification to an EMT office.
