Record number of passengers for Palma de Mallorca airport

The Son Sant Joan airport broke all previous records for passenger numbers in August, handling a grand total of 3,464,972 passengers - 8.1% more than the same period last year. The figures have been published by AENA, the Spanish airport holding company.

The number of flights in August was 24,039, up 7.7% versus last year. Domestic flights were down slightly (1.1%) and international flights, representing over 70% of total traffic, increased by 12%.

There was a slight decline in the number of people flying on charter flights. Meanwhile, the number of passengers on scheduled flights, nearly 80% of the total, was up 12.1%.

To date this year Palma de Mallorca's airport has handled over 16,148,513 passengers, 8.3% more than during the same period in 2010. The number of flights operating from the airport is up 4.4%.
