Soller Welcomes influx of Holidaymakers

Easter holidays bring new converts and old friends alike

The population of Soller appears to have doubled overnight with a mix of the newly converted and old friends returning.

I had coffee in the square yesterday with a couple who were in Soller for the first time on a walking holiday. They had come with friends who knew someone in Soller. That was their introduction to the town. They had climbed our highest peak, walked the majesty of the Cuber reservoir and found Café Paris. Drinking coffee with the local eccentrics in the square in the centre of the town is a sign that you understand the place. This was their first visit to Mallorca and they regretted not having discovered the ‘hidden valley of Soller’ before. The talk turned to holiday homes and relocation and it was clear that this experience was having a profound effect on their future plans.

The newly sanded beaches in the Port of Soller are being dug for the first time. The buckets and spades are enjoying the feel of ‘virgin’ soft white sand. There are brave children splashing in the sea and serious swimmers with wet suits on. The sea temperature is only fit for those who come from Northern Europe. The rest of us think it's much too cold to even put a toe in the water. The renovations on the sea front are a source of interest as the finishing touches are being made. The low wall running the length of the seafront has now been capped with a wide finishing tile. This means it becomes a seat for all to sit and watch our wonderful sunsets. We will soon rival the sunset parties that are held in Florida where the daily event is greeted by crowds with cocktails. It's only a matter of time before that happens here. The local bar owners are already looking for ways to capitalise on the new beach and facilities that have opened up in front of their eyes.

Every season new businesses looking after the increasingly sophisticated needs of our visitors emerge. The grand opening of Bullimoto is imminent. Tthis is how they describe their services:

"Explore the island in style and see real Mallorca on a Vespa. As easy to ride as a bicycle but much less effort!

Don’t get stuck in a rut. Don’t sweat it out in car hire offices or waste precious holiday time waiting for taxis – have the freedom of the island during your stay and discover the island from a local’s perspective. Do your own thing on a Bullimoto scooter."

Bullimoto is located in Port de Soller. For more information visit the Bullimoto website.

We welcome new businesses as we welcome new visitors - they are the life blood of our town.

Happy holidays to all.
