Sunbed, parasol and bar licenses on the beaches of Es Trenc and Ses Covetes in the Southeast of Mallorca, will have their licences temporarily revoked.

The suspension has been put in place due to the delay of the demolition of apartment buildings that were illegally built in the Ses Covetes area in Campos. The apartments will be torn down and it is feared that the demolition work may put people in danger.

Residents of the Campos area are extremely upset that the license suspension will cause around 200 summer jobs to be lost, and have been protesting outside the Campos Town Hall.

A judge at the high court has ruled that the beaches will not have their licences returned until the demolition of apartments has taken place. The Mayor of Campos, the region in which Es Trenc, Ses Covetes and the illegal apartments lie, has been fined for not demolishing the apartments.

The total cost of the demolition (which should have started on the 14th March) is €452,000. The Government has agreed to pay 75% with Campos Council covering the remainder.
