Belmond La Residencia in Deia is renowned for providing it's guests with the ideal space for rest & relaxation. One of its many delights consists of the extensive gardens and land attached to the property. But what many guests do not realise is that the entire hillside rising up behind the hotel also forms part of the property’s cultural and scenic heritage.

The Soller Vintage Train has been luring tourists for years. The beautiful wooden carriages first travelled from Palma to Sóller, in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, on 16th April 1912. It was no small feat, as the tracks had to cross the Alfàbia mountain range en route to the booming town, famous for its orange groves.

The course at Alcanada is a real gem. The only course on the island which is on the coast, this Robert Trent Jones design perfectly exploits its magnificent setting. Tough in places though inviting for golfers of all levels, the course is a superb synergy of beauty and quality.

On a sunny February Saturday morning, we drove towards Banyalbufar to try the leisurely but beautiful Port des Canonge hike, along a coastal path at the very edge of the majestic Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. The path is called Cami de Sa Volta des General, named after General F. Cotoner who, in the 19th century, was the owner of the Baronia estate, now a hotel in Banyalbufar.

On a bright and sunny autumn day in October, I was invited to go out on some jet skis with a group of friends as a way of enjoying the last few days of summer in Mallorca. Living in Palma the closest we get to some of Mallorca's local produce is in the supermarket. Lining the shelves are olives, almonds, sobrasada (sausage paste), honey, oranges, lemons and, of course, wine.

Mallorca has so much to offer the intrepid and lethargic alike but there are few activities that can appease both at the same time. Flying over Cala Millor in a hot air balloon is one such activity and thankfully ballooning in Mallorca is readily available thanks to Jordi at IB Ballooning.

Having bravely risked my limbs to bring you an account of diving with sharks at Palma Aquarium I was convinced that I was the most extreme person in Mallorca. Red Bull flowed in my veins, fear had been banished into my bedroom wardrobe, and I chortled in the face of death.

Many visitors to our part of the world come here for the walking, as the valley is surrounded on all sides by the rugged terrain of the Tramuntana mountains. The mountains are divided up into estates, 'olivares' and wild countryside and on any walk in the Tramuntana will find examples of all three.

Of all the towns to visit on the island of Mallorca, Sineu would not necessarily be everyone’s obvious choice. 

Every Wednesday and Friday the tourism office organises a free walking tour of Alcudia, taking in the historical sights of the old town with a multilingual and very knowledgeable guide.
