Well, our reporter has come up with a solution for you! Laguna – the busy, family friendly pool, bar and restaurant, and a great spot to avoid the summer heat in Puerto Pollenca.

Not everyone is lucky enough to have accommodation that comes with a pool and in this incredible summer heat when even the sea is no longer cool, a swimming pool is just what you need. Check out Laguna pool, bar and restaurant for an escape from the beach and the chance to relax by a pretty pool for the price of a cocktail or two.

Laguna is set at the Formentor end of Puerto Pollenca just behind the Illa D’or Hotel, don’t be put off by it’s rather ragged outer appearance, Laguna may need some revamping but inside it’s full of lush greenery and is a little oasis in the summer heat. It consists of a free form, tropical pool surrounded by sun loungers, straw parasols and seating areas one of which juts out into the pool, there is also an indoor restaurant area and bar. In order to make use of the pool and loungers guests are required to be eating or at least drinking on site at the restaurant and bar. Waiter service is available to all of the seating areas and sun beds so you can order without having to move, and you need only start a tab for your family or group and settle up at the end of your stay.

Laguna offers a luggage storage service that is very popular, instead of wasting a day of your holiday waiting for an inconvenient check in or flight time, merely store your bags at Laguna and enjoy the day by the pool whilst you wait. For this innovation Laguna has a loyal crowds of fans who return year after year to make use of this transfer day convenience.

A tourist haven Laguna is packed with Brits and popular with families with young children and it can get very busy in peak season. The seating areas surrounding the pool are not huge and people tend to be packed somewhat close together, the pool is generally filled with young children and inflatable’s and is not a spot to be trying to swim properly, also be aware that there is no lifeguard on duty so keep an eye on your kids. There’s serious competition for the limited sun loungers so if you’re planning to make a day of it then you’ll want to get there early to secure your spot, you can always move into the restaurant area later for lunch. The pool is open from 10am and is closed to swimmers from 6pm although Laguna remains open for dinner.

The food served is standard pub fare, portion sizes are generous and they do lots of British favourites and Spanish specialties reasonably priced, the menu doesn’t go much over €17. Lunch is served 12-3.30pm and dinner from 7pm. The menu offers burgers, pasta, pizza, sandwiches and salads as well as paellas, tapas and plenty of seafood options. They offer a takeaway menu, children’s menu at €6 and sell snacks and ice creams from the bar all day. Laguna are proud of their cocktail menu, they also have a good draught beer and wine selection.

Twice a week in peak season Laguna has live music nights, with Jazz bands and lounge singers accompanying dinner, if you wish to eat on these nights it is wise to book a table in advance.

Head to Laguna if you want to beat the heat, if you’re in dire need of a pool and don’t mind paying for it by having the occasional cocktail. Head there for dinner to enjoy live music and good food around a pretty pool setting. Avoid Laguna if you dislike crowds or young children! Oh and check out their website for pictures of when Gerard Butler paid them a visit!
