Grupos de Rescate Especial de Intervención en Montaña (GREIM) are a branch of the Spanish Civil Guard who are trained to operate in mountain areas and other hard to reach places.
Their role over the years has changed and developed according to needs and although originally started as a mountain rescue service for skiers and climbers they are now highly trained for rescue in situations such as canyoning, caving and specialise in aquatic rescue.
Their duties include, rescue, investigation, conservation of nature, public safety in sports, mountain resorts and sports competitions and assistance in the prevention of accidents.
They will work in conjunction with other local services to ensure a fast response and the best outcomes.
