Verdi's opera live at Palma's Teatre Principal
Palma presents this production by the Sâo Carlos National Theatre in Lisbon and performed by the Symphonic Orchestra of the Balearic Islands and the Cor del Teatre Principal de Palma.
Verdi felt an obsessive attraction to Shakespeare, which started with his Macbeth in 1847 (Macbeth). The composer broke away from the dogmas of the opera of his time. He did not want those conventions to soften the tragic dimension of the work, one of the darkest and most gut-wrenching stories of ambition in the history of literature.
Elena Barbalich, director of this production premiered it at the São Carlos National Theatre in Lisbon. There is no good or bad in her interpretation.
