After last week's hot and sunny weather the storm that hit Mallorca yesterday was rather unexpected. For nine hours over one hundred tourists were trapped in Sa Calobra, in the Tramuntana Mountains, after their buses became blocked off by a snow and ice.

The storm hit Mallorca yesterday afternoon as temperatures plummeted, joined by hail stones and gusts of wind of around 80-100km/hr. The high winds also put pressure on fire-fighters as they had to help rescue hikers from the mountains near Campanet as well as remove fallen trees from roads.

Hail pummelled the island with 77 litres collected in Lluc, 42 litres in Pollensa and 25 litres in Bunyola.

Snow is set to remain in the mountains above 500 meters but by the end of the week the weather should improve however there is a possibility of it returning on Sunday.
