Palma's city centre shopping along Avenida Jaime III and Paseo del Borne has it all, from luxury designer brands to high street staples. Since March this year Palma city council has allowed shops to open every day of the week, including Sundays and Bank Holidays.

The trial was to determine if opening shops every day of the week could make a substantial difference to retail sales and tourism. It has now been confirmed that the trial was a success and shops will maintain these opening hours for the rest of the year.

The move to open shops on Sundays and bank holidays has already had positive feedback and will further enhance Palma as a City Break destination. Shops on Jaime III include the Spanish department store El Corte Ingles, Mango, Massimo Dutti and Cartier. Shops along the leafy Paseo del Borne include H&M, Zara and Louis Vuitton.

Not only have the shops on Jaime III and Paseo Borne benefitted from the change in shop opening times, restaurants and cafes in nearby locations have also been enjoying the increase in footfall.

Further to this, franchise stores in Palma have beaten sales records due to the influx in tourism and extended opening hours. The franchises doing the best are those from German, Scandinavian, Russian and Swiss shops. Shops that have been benefitting the most include Massimo Dutti, Adolfo Dominguez, Zara, H&M, Caroline Herrera, Boss and Mango.

The city centre retailers have also seen a boom in sales from cruises as the city centre shops are only a 10 minute walk from the marina.
