Darren Clarke took his first win in three years at the Iberdrola Open Golf Tournament in Mallorca yesterday. The blustery conditions on Sunday meant there was everything to play for on the final day and the Northern Irishman Clarke overcame a four shot deficit to claim victory over Englishman Chris Wood.

Wood (23) had held the lead since end of play on Friday but faltered on the Sunday having a nightmare round of 76 (six over par). Clarke on the other hand, produced a steady round of 69 to win the tournament by three shots. Wood tied with fellow Englishman David Lynn in second place at three under par. To complete the British monopoly of the places, Scotsman Alistair Forsyth took fourth spot, finishing on two under par.

The Iberdrola Open is held at Pula Golf Course in the north east of Mallorca amd forms part of the European Tour schedule. Clarke takes away €166,660 as winner of the tournament and now lies 35th on the Race to Dubai ranking list. For further information, please take a look at the European Tour website.
