Bikinis and shorts to be banned in the streets of Mallorca in Summer 2014

From December it may be illegal to be shirtless in Palma and wearing a bikini in public spaces away from the beach may be punishable by a €200 fine.

The ability for the authorities to punish people who are undressed in public comes as a new draft of the civility ordinance comes before government. The draft ordinance states that it is illegal to be “nude” or crucially “nearly nude” outside of beaches and swimming pools. This might mean that men are not allowed to wander around shirtless and women must cover up if they are wearing a bikini away from the beach. Failure to comply with these regulations will be regarded as a misdemeanor and could be punished with a €100 - €200 fine.
