Calvia Town Hall will be offering free Spanish lessons for foreign residents again this year. With 109 different nationalities living in the Calvia region, the local government are keen to encourage integration and see language courses as a useful and popular way to facilitate this.

The courses were first started in 2003, and have enjoyed year on year increases in number of pupils. Last season, 698 residents enrolled in the courses, with 270 completing the course. The next classes will be held in various locations of the municipality, and will run from mid-September 2010 until the beginning of May, 2011.

Three levels are offered - basic, intermediate and advanced. Lessons have been held at the Casal de Peguera, Casa de Cultura de Santa Ponça; IFOC in Magaluf; Es Generador; the AAVV (neighbourhood Association) in Portals and at the Primary School Migjorn in Bendinat.

Registration forms can be obtained between 1st and 8th September (students continuing from last year, between 6th and 8th September), at the Foreign Citizens Department of the Town Hall, from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 2pm.

More information can be found at the Foreign Citizens Department (Tel. 971 139 184/5).
