Hotel Sis Pins Paves the way for Palma de Mallorca 365
Another hotel opens over the winter season in Mallorca
Hotel Sis Pins in Puerto Pollensa signed a winter deal this week with UK tour operator Cosmos. The new deal comes as encouraging news in a year when the Palma Tourist Board is determined to change the public image of not only the city, but the Island as a whole.
The collaboration between the hotel and Cosmos means the hotel will keep 22 out of 51 rooms open off-season, with the option to open more on request. Cosmos is part of the Monarch group and can guarantee at least 4 four flights per week from the UK, which is likely to increase early next year.
Last year the hotel made a snap decision to stay open for the winter. Business was better than expected and this spurred them on to do something on a more permanent basis. The knock on effect on tourism in the surrounding area was also positive: six local restaurants remained open for business through the colder months and they will also be looking to do the same again.
‘Palma de Mallorca 365’ is a tourism foundation, launched in January of this year, to attract more tourists to the island off season. On a grander scale ‘Palma de Mallorca 365’ hopes to promote not only city breaks to Palma but stays in many of the hotels and excellent restaurants available around the island.
In December 2013 Spain welcomed 3.1 million International tourists, a 16.3 per cent increase compared to the previous year. Mallorca however is struggling to keep pace, with almost 70% of its 2.5million annual tourists still choosing to visit between June and September.
How can this change? The foundation explains the answer is in marketing the following: “the boutique properties with open fire places; the long countryside walks; the mild climate; and some of the many winter exhibitions.” In principle they wish to modify the beach destination image of the island, highlighting its other varied and attractive attributes.
Hotel Sis Pins is certainly doing its part. This week it has made its intentions clear and truly believes that Mallorca will and should appeal to tourists all year round.
