Joan Miro artwork to be auctioned in London

Sotheby's in London is to auction some of Joan Miró's paintings on the 5th February. The auction will feature firstly modern and impressionist art followed by surrealist artwork.

Miro lived in Mallorca from 1954 until he died in 1983. From 1956 he painted in his specially designed studio in Cala Major, which today is open to the public. He was especially prolific during the 1960's once he had had time to reflect on his former paintings and sketches.

The highest valued Miro artwork to be auctioned in the modern and impressionist sale is the 'Femme Rêvant de l'Evasion', which was painted in February 1945. It is expected to reach between €9.9 - €14.8 million.

Other works from Miró include 'Peinture' (1953) valued at €995,000, 'L'aube II/II (1959) at €620,000-€870,000 and 'Personnatges et Oiseaux Devant le Soleil' (1963) at €620,000-€995,000.

Other modern and impressionist artists featured in the auctions are Matisse, Henry Moore, Edger Degas and Monet.as well as the highly desirable Spanish artist Pablo Picasso.

The surrealist artwork auction will feature Joan Miró's 'Le Fermier et son Espouse' (1936) which is expected to reach over €6.5 million.
